JC Fit City - CITY RUNNERS - Introduction to "Running Leaders"

Each “JC Fit City – CITY RUNNERS” running group in various district has dedicated “Running Leaders.” Our running leaders have gained thorough theoretical and practical training under RunOurCity, equipping them with the skills to plan, organize, and lead running activities while strengthening the team relationships. Together with our running leaders, we promote the idea of “Together Run, Together Fun.” In addition, the “Running Leaders” will support other projects under RunOurCity or co-host large group running events with us, making them essential members of our community.

“JC Fit City – CITY RUNNERS truly makes it easy for us to enjoy the fun of running. No matter where we are, there’s always a nearby running group to join. This program plays a significant role in helping us develop a consistent exercise habit. It’s not just about speed and distance; it’s also a social activity that fosters friendships and strengthens team spirit.

I hope to attract members from diverse backgrounds and running levels, and keep them engaged and involved through a variety of activities. Our weekly themed runs and the formation of teams at different difficulty levels are excellent starting points. To further this goal, I plan to host special events such as holiday-themed runs and long-distance training sessions, to enhance engagement and foster a sense of belonging. Through these initiatives, I believe we can attract more people in and build a healthy, vibrant running community together.”

“Sparkling Spirit Pulse” –
James Ip

Running Motto: “Run and Be Happy. Don’t regret.”
🏃🏻‍♀️ Running Experience: Over 10 years
👍🏻 Specialty: Approachability

“I have been running for over 10 years, and for most of the time, I’ve run alone and participated in training sessions. This year, I had the opportunity to join the fifth phase of the streetathon leader workshop, where I met a group of running enthusiasts from Sham Shui Po. Our shared belief is to spread the joy of running to the local community. With the knowledge and skills I learned in the workshop, I felt confident to become a leader and guide ‘Sparkling Spirit Pulse.’

Our primary goal is to lead our running group to take a group photo at the Stonecutters Bridge. Every week, the five of us leaders observe our runners’ conditions, then plan and adjust the route distances, and gradually enhance our training intensity through games. Currently, I’m very happy to have completed six running group activities, and most of the runners have become good friends, slowly turning into a big family.”

As they progress, I also strive to grow by participating in training sessions and expanding my knowledge through reading. “Sparkling Spirit Pulse ” –
Yiu Tai / Eva

Running Motto: “If you want to give up, then why did you start in the first place?”
🏃🏻‍♀️ Running Experience: 9 years
👍🏻 Specialty: Communicating joyfully with fellow runners and sharing! Always ready to answer questions, responsible, and well-prepared.

“Becoming a running leader allows me to gain experience, enhance my knowledge, and identify my shortcomings while getting to know runners of different ages and understanding their needs. As the saying goes, ‘teaching benefits both.’ I hope that through my role as a leader, I can boost my confidence and improve my communication skills. Beyond just connecting with runners, leaders can also learn how to reach consensus and foster team spirit.

Additionally, exercise releases endorphins, which can alleviate negative emotions like depression and spread joy to others—this is something I aspire to achieve.

For the running group, I will maintain a lifelong learning mindset to deepen my understanding of sports and continue to enjoy sharing with others. My goal is to create a relaxed atmosphere where we pursue a healthy and happy lifestyle through running, spreading positive energy to the people of Hong Kong. I also plan to set goals for my fellow runners, ensuring they make progress in each session. Beyond just happiness and health, I hope we can take it a step further by participating in races and even joining overseas events together!”

Running Motto: “Each run is a testament to your willpower; there’s no shortcut to greatness.”
🏃🏻‍♀️ Running Experience: Over 10 years
👍🏻 Specialty: Approachability and a strong commitment to running

“The motivation for joining the running group comes from being able to run with my wife. After attending the running class, she developed an interest in running and became friends with other runners. We all hope to continue running together and support one another. To ensure my wife has a safe route, and since the runners prefer to be led by familiar friends, I boldly took on the role of a leader.

Whenever I plan a route, I set a basic distance and include options for additional exercises to meet the diverse needs of the runners. Along with running, I incorporate other activities to help everyone blend in, enjoy every run, and run in a relaxed and carefree manner. By being consistent, we can run happier, farther, and healthier together.”

“Weight Gain Run” – Stephen

Running Motto: “FunRunning is all about happiness.”
🏃🏻‍♀️ Running Experience: 10 years
👍🏻 Specialty: Creating a lively atmosphere and designing unique running routes to bring excitement

“I initially signed up for the leader training course recommended by my running instructor, hoping to get free entries for future races (just kidding!). After completing the course, I reflected on my past attempt in 2019 when my running friends and I tried to organize a neighborhood night run, which didn’t go as planned. Determined to establish a running group in Sai Wan Ho again, I teamed up with my partner, Keung Gor, and took on the role of night running group leader once more. My goal is for our group to become one of the most recognized night running groups in Eastern Island.

Learning from past experiences, I focus on adding variety to our routes to prevent participants from running the same paths too often. Thanks to positive word-of-mouth from our members, we naturally attract more runners to join us. As our group continues to grow, we need new members to become leaders and helpers, bringing energy and freshness, allowing the group to operate sustainably.”

“I joined the leader training course on the recommendation of my running instructor, and with encouragement from my partner, Stephen, we both decided to enroll. My partner was eager to become a run leader, so we ended up becoming leaders of the Eastern Island running group together. I hope to continually welcome new members, providing fresh routes for both new and existing runners each week while sharing my running experiences. My goal is to foster a legacy, encouraging potential leaders to join and share the responsibilities of current run leaders, so one day, I can step back after achieving our goals.”

“I was born and raised in this area for over 40 years, and I have a deep passion for it. By chance, I transformed from a homebody into a runner, which allowed me to meet many different friends and change my character. Life has no ‘take 2,’ and I’m grateful for the platform provided by CITY RUNNERS that gives me the opportunity to share my interests with my modest skills. I hope to bring together like-minded runners to enjoy easy, happy runs together and improve together. I also hope to inspire more beginners to experience this joy and achieve better health.”

🏃🏻‍♀️ Running Experience: 10 years
👍🏻 Specialty: Uniting team strength

“Through the activities of JC Fit City – CITY RUNNERS, I have learned to harness the power of teamwork and uphold our original intentions. Everyone has different needs and goals when it comes to running, but as long as each person is willing to take the first step, they’ve already achieved half of their success. I hope to lead a group of runners towards developing a healthy habit through this running group, rediscovering our beginner’s mindset, and sharing that deep passion (fire) for running.”
